त्येक मराठमोळ्या माणसाला .... जो गावाकडच्या काळ्या मातीत, काळ्या आईच्या कुशीत वाढलेला आहे. अशा गावाची ओढ लावणार्या कथांचा संग्रह.
गोष्ट जेव्हा स्फुरते, तेव्हा ती आपला आकार घेऊनच येते. पण हे नेहमीच होते, असे नाही. काही वेळा कथेचे अगदी लहान बीज मनात येऊन पडते – पिंपळाच्या बीजासारखे. अशी बीजे नेहमीच पडत असतात; पण त्यातले गवताचे कोणते आणि पिंपळाचे कोणते, हे मात्र कळते. नेमके कळत नाही; पण पुढे जो विस्तीर्ण अश्वत्थ वृक्ष होणार असतो, त्याच्या पानांची नुसती गंभीर सळसळच ऐकू येते. ...अशीच पानांची सळसळ असलेला वृक्ष! म्हणजे ‘गावाकडच्या गोष्टी’
