रणजित देसाई हे एक बहुआयामी साहित्यिक आहेत. कादंबरीलेखनामुळे त्यांनी दिगंत किर्ती मिळवली असली, तरी त्यांनी साहित्यिक कर्तृत्वाचा आरंभ कथालेखनानंच केला होता. सुरवातीच्या काळात त्यांनी कथांच्या माध्यमातून ग्रामीण वास्तवाचा वेध घेतला. त्यानंतर इतिहासाच्या गर्भरेशमी, अद्भुतरम्य वातावरणात नेणाNया मनोवेधक कथाही त्यांनी लिहिल्या. संगीतक्षेत्रात अलौकिक यश संपादन करणाNया काही कलावंतांची सुखदुःखही त्यांनी आस्थेवाईकपणे चितारली. पुढच्या काळात त्यांनी अत्यंत प्रवाही शैलीत काही निसर्गकथाही लिहिल्या, काही नक्षत्रकथाही लिहिल्या, काही रूपककथाही लिहिल्या. मोरपंखी सावल्या या त्यांच्या आगळ्यावेगळ्या संग्रहात निसर्गाच्या सावलीत वाढणाया प्राण्यांच्या पंधरा कथा साक्षेपानं एकत्रित केलेल्या आहेत. या सर्व कथांचं विलक्षण वैशिष्ट्य असं, की त्या पूर्णतः मानवविरहित आहेत. कथासूत्रात बांधलेली ही लालित्यपूर्ण निसर्गचित्र पाहून आणि अनुभवून, रणजित देसाई हा आपल्या काळातील केवढा थोर साहित्यिक आहे, याचा उत्कट प्रत्यय वाचकांना येईल.
We all know Ranjit Desai as a versatile writer he got his name and fame because of the novels, still, he started his career as a writer with short stories. During the early years, he mainly focused on rural life and the realities therein. Later on, he tried to walk on the path of history giving us wondrous stories with the majestic environment. He sketched pictures of well-known personalities in the field of music and art. Later on, he switched over to stories with more stress on nature, stars, etc. Morpankhi sawalya is a collection of 15 stories of different animals, used to nature. The peculiarity of these stories as though they are written by a human, not even a single human being comes into our sight throughout after going through the wonderful nature pictured by Ranjit Desai, we will once again realize his greatness.
